SPECIAL BEA COVERAGE: Jen McConnel

I am excited to introduce a special guest post from Jen McConnel of Month9Books, one of our fabulous sponsors.  Please give her a warm welcome and pass on lots of well wishes for her first BEA ever!!

Hey, all! I’m so thrilled to be attending BEA for the FIRST TIME EVER this year! I’ve been packing, planning, and pestering BEA veterans for advice this week, and so far, the consensus is pretty simple: wear comfortable shoes and have fun!

*Packs flip-flops*

Who I am: I’m a writer and a teacher, and I love all things YA. I’m also a bit of a wanderer, and NYC was the first place I ever dreamed of traveling when I was a kid. I’ve been there a number of times, but this will be my first visit as an author.  It’s scary and intense and amazing all rolled into one, and I can’t wait for this weekend.

What I write: I write YA and NA fiction, but I also write nonfiction. Poetry was my first literary love, and I still like to rhyme from time to time. :)

My debut novel, THE SECRET OF ISOBEL KEY, is a NA contemporary mystery set in Scotland, and it came out last December from Bloomsbury Spark. The sequel is coming in June, so once I get home from BEA, I’ll be gearing up for the release of HER SECRET INHERITANCE.

On the YA end of things, the first book in the RED MAGIC series just came out in March from Month9Books. Not to play favorites, but DAUGHTER OF CHAOS was one of my favorite books to write, and I love the mash up of mythology and magic that exist in Darlena’s world. Basically, the book is about a sixteen-year-old witch who makes a really bad choice. It’s also the first of a trilogy, so get ready for even more magic in the coming months!

Where I’ll be: I’ll be signing copies of DAUGHTER OF CHAOS at the Month9Books booth 3058 during Book Con on Saturday, May 31st. Someone asked recently if I’ve been practicing my signature...oops. *Scribbles frantically on to-do list*

Start spreading the news...I’m heading to BEA! :)
