In honor of one of today's topics, Expanding Blogging Horizons, I would like to introduce to you Sheila of Book Journey.  She has been blogging for a number of years and has taken her blog to another level and expanded it beyond just the online world.  Here is just a little peek at what her blog has brought to her life.

BLOGGING BEYOND YOUR HORIZONS

Blogging has opened doors for me that I never anticipated.  When I started Book Journey in June of 2009 it was more of a way for me to keep track of my reading, but now here in 2014, blogging has changed my world completely.

I somehow became a “go to” person in our community to inquire about what to read next.  As word spread a few pretty cool things happened.
  • I became a banned book advocate for our community and was asked to speak at a retired teachers conference about banned books.
  • I was asked to be on the city library Board.
  • I became a Friend of The Public Library and currently hold the position of President.

Making the cover of Her Voice!

And probably most exciting for me was I was noticed by the editor of a local magazine called Her Voice where I started out several years ago by writing book reviews for them and have now branched out into feature articles.  All very cool!

Blogging can be a fun way to share your love of books; and as I noted here, if you so desire – blogging can be a stepping block to do so much more.  Look for ways to spread your horizon while doing what you already love.

  6. Love seeing you here Sheila. You know I have always admired what you bring to your library. I live in a much larger city and don't have those kind of great events here, so I'm a little jelly too! I also love to see when you do your runs. Wish I had that kind of ambition!

  7. You've certainly broadened your horizons, Sheila! Other than starting my own editing company, blogging has also got me into contact with the local library. I sometimes am a judge on reading aloud contests or a writing contest. Really nice!
