A Survey of Book Bloggers

In one week, Armchair BEA kicks off for another year, bringing you special topics and an insider scoop from the streets and halls of Book Expo America and beyond.  One of the special topics this year is an insider view of those participating as well as those who categorize themselves as book bloggers in general.  On behalf of the Armchair BEA team, we ask that you complete the survey below that contains a little more than 20 questions and should take no more than 10-15 minutes to complete.  At the end of the Armchair week, we will post the results as well as a few thoughts on those statistics for your perusal.

From the beginning of Armchair BEA three years ago our primary goal was to enjoy as much of Book Expo America from the comfort of our very own homes. During our first year we started small by incorporating the original Book Blogger Conference. Hear Ye, Hear Ye - All About This Year's Interviews!

Armchair BEA 2012 is quickly approaching! In the past two events, the blogger interviews were one of the most popular events of Armchair BEA. Let's face it - who doesn't like learning about the eclectic and extremely large community of bloggers out there? More importantly, just because you may not be physically present at the Javits Center in NYC does not mean that you cannot meet other bloggers. Because the community has gotten so large though, visiting everyone's website has become nigh impossible and extremely time-consuming. So this year, in the spirit of promoting community, we want to change things and make it easier to achieve the true spirit of Armchair BEA - networking.

Instead of interviewing one blogger and being interviewed by another, we decided that the best way to encourage meeting as many bloggers as possible would be to run individual interviews and then have a little game. In other words, you will be interviewing yourself and then visiting and leaving comments with as many other bloggers as possible.  Who knows? There might even be a fun prize for the "winner". 

In order to even the playing field, we also thought it would be a good idea to provide the interview questions and limiting the questions answered to five. That way, everyone has to answer the same number of questions. This thereby ensures that the posts are all relatively the same length, again encouraging visiting others. Also, because the meet-and-greet is the quintessential part of any get-together, and to encouraging ongoing networking throughout the week, Introductions First is going to be the opening event of Armchair BEA 2012. Makes sense, right?

Without further ado, here are ten interview questions for you. All we ask is that you answer five of them and spend the rest of the time meeting others. After all, getting to know one another is the most important part of this process! We will have a Mr. Linky for your personal interview up for Day 1, and the comment sections will help us determine who has visited and left comments with the most bloggers. Please let us know if you have any questions between now and the opening event. Most importantly, have fun!
  1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?
  2. What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012?
  3. Tell us one non-book-related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you.

Twitter Parties Coming Your Way!

The first year of Armchair BEA, we held one Twitter party.  The second year, we held two.  In the third year, we are stepping it up once again and holding THREE parties to get participants all over the world participating and joining in the Armchairing fun!

2012 Participant Registration Now Open!!!

It's that time of year again! The third annual Armchair BEA is quickly approaching and in an effort to get things going well in advance we'd like to open up participant registration today!

So, what exactly does being a participant entail? First and foremost, you'll be able to celebrate and participate in an event that happens each year in New York City, Book Expo America, from the comfort of your very own home, hopefully a snugly armchair! Secondly, and we hope equally as important, you'll be able to meet new book bloggers and join together in a celebration of the wonderful community that comes out of book blogging. Last year we had over 600 participants, so you're bound to meet some new great bookish friends! Lastly, it means participating, however you're able to. This can be by posting, tweeting, discussing, or even by simply reading and commenting on participating blogs. Your level of participation is entirely up to you, but we hope you'll find something to get you involved in this fabulous event! 

Each of us has an entirely valid reason for not being able to make to BEA in NYC, including many of the organizers. Because of that the organizers and publicity team are working hard behind the scenes to give you an event that you won't soon forget! Here are just a few comments from participants last year...

Calling All Sponsors!

Part of the excitement of making the trek to BEA is in part meeting so many wonderful authors & publishers, but also the amazing books you come in contact with, many of which you take home. Armchair BEA strives to bring many of the aspects of this wonderful conference into the homes of our fellow book bloggers in every way possible, including through our sponsors. Last year we had an astounding amount of Sponsors, from authors to publicists and many of the publishing houses attending the event in NY. This year we'd love to continue that tradition and this is where our Sponsors come in!

As part of this event, you will have two options . . . (1) a giveaway (**Sponsorship**) hosted right here on the Armchair BEA site or (2) a giveaway hosted on your own personal blog or site. For the latter (personal giveaways), we will have a post available during the week of the event with you to link to your own site. This post is for those who wish to do the 1st option and be a Sponsor for Armchair BEA.

You may be asking...who qualifies to be a sponsor or even what one is exactly?

  • A sponsor could be an author, a publicist, a publisher, a bookstore and potentially even other fellow book bloggers.
  • Please Note: This year, because of the high number of sponsors last year, we are asking that book bloggers wishing to sponsor Armchair BEA be those that are unable to participate in the "Giveaway Day" during the event week. If you know that you will not be able to participate in the event (for whatever reason) than please feel free to fill out the form below to sign up to be a sponsor!

What does being a Sponsor for Armchair BEA provide you with? 

  • Listing on the Armchair BEA Giveaways Page as a Sponsor, including links back to your website or specified page. 
  • Advertising of whichever title(s) you wish to provide with your Sponsorship. 
  • Mention on social media sites such as Twitter (@ArmchairBEA) and our Facebook Page
  • Viewing by hundreds of book bloggers as well as their followers. (Last year we had over 600 participants!) 
  • Possibility of promotion by the bloggers who receive winnings. (Though it is at each individual blogger's discretion what they choose to share on their personal sites/blogs, we will encourage them to make mention of their winnings in some form either via an In My Mailbox post, review, or a way they are comfortable with. Again, not required.)
