Post-Event Survey: What did you think about Armchair BEA?

We hope you enjoyed being part of Armchair BEA as much as we enjoyed putting it together - but now's your chance to tell us what you think! We'd really appreciate your taking just a few minutes to respond to our brief Post-Event Survey. You can even keep your response anonymous if you like, unless you're interested in helping organize next year's Armchair BEA - then we'll need to know your name and how to get in touch with you!

Thank you for making the first Armchair BEA - which didn't even exist a month ago - a success beyond what we could have possibly imagined!

Survey now closed. Please check back soon for Armchair BEA 2011!!

Armchair BEA Adjourned!

WOW!!

Only a couple of weeks ago, a few people were chatting on Twitter about celebrating from home while everyone was having fun in New York.  Next thing you know, Armchair BEA was born!  A few of us banded together, sharing ideas and contributing to getting this site up and rolling, and then spreading the word.  I don't think any of us ever thought we would end up with 170+ registered participants and literally hundreds of fabulous posts in literally only thirteen days!  Isn't it amazing how much one community can do when we all set our minds to it?  As I watched this process from the beginning, I am simply left in amazement and awe and the one word above is the only words I can come up with to explain my feelings!

On behalf of all of the organizers, we want to say . . . .

THANK YOU!!

Thank you for your participation!  Thank you for your enthusiasm!  Thank you for your contributions!  Thank you for everything!  This is just another example of how awesome this book blogging community really is!!

Before we say good-bye for the week from here at Armchair BEA, I have a few last minute things to share.  However, we hope to be back next year with more fabulous topics, conversations, giveaways, and of course, parties!  And, we want your input!  If you have not done so already, please take the time to follow or subscribe to this very website.  We don't want you to miss our upcoming survey (set to be posted this afternoon) where you can leave your feedback with us as well as any future news that is to come for Armchair BEA events.

And now, I want to leave you with a quick summary and wrap-up for the week . . .

A Quick Summary:  Don't forget to come back and check out all the outstanding posts from the participants!

Did you win one of the fabulous giveaways?  Not sure?  Here is the list of all those that won!!  If you have not done so, be sure to contact Danielle to get hooked up!

And, we could not have these fabulous giveaways without these very kind and thoughtful sponsors!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

And, all of you who personally hosted giveaways on your own sites!

And, I cannot close out the week without thanking my fellow organizers of this event!!  You are all truly inspiring and I have learned so much from you this week!  Here's to many more years and celebrations!!

Did you wrap things up from your armchair?  If so, feel free to link it below!

#ArmChairBEA Twitter Party!

One of the best things about BEA is getting to meet other bloggers and chat about our favorite thing, books!

Well, don't let the miles of distance between us stop you from having a wonderful conversation with bloggers just like you.

Join us on Thursday, May 27 from 8-10 pm EST for some great conversation. Make sure you are using the #armchairBEA hashtag in order to get in on the fun, and follow me @emsreadingroom. Also, you may want to look into using TweetGrid, TwitterChat, or TweetDeck to keep up with the conversation.

Some of the topics we'll be discussing are:
  • What we are reading now
  • ARC's we most want from BEA
  • Authors we'd most like to meet
  • Dream panels of BEA or BBC authors
  • And whatever comes to mind
So, pop a bag of popcorn, grab your computer and join us for some Armchair BEA fun! Please add your name and Twitter handle to the Mr. Linky below. This isn't required, but it's nice to know how many people are signed up, and also a good way to meet other bookish tweeps.

Oh, and if you participate with us using the #ArmchairBEA hashtag, you have a chance to win some of this. We've got 10 packs to give away and 2 of them are international!

Can't wait to see you there!

Time to Network!

Did you participate in our Networking session?  Please use Mr. Linky below to post a link to your interview, so that everyone can get a chance to discover what you found out about your interviewee!  Don't forget to visit others' interviews as well!  This exercise is all about getting out there and "meeting" new people.

How many bloggers can you visit today?

Welcome to the Official Opening of Arm Chair BEA 2010

Welcome to the 1st Annual Arm Chair BEA!

On behalf of all the Arm Chair BEA Organizers we would like to say thank you for signing up, spreading the word and now participating. We could have never anticipated the interest in this amazing event that started as a simple tweet between a few friends, but we couldn't be happier!

Today is ALL about things BEA oriented. Posts for today should be "bookish" in nature, the kind of things you'd find when looking through the panels and exhibits at BEA. So, if you haven't already, take a look at our BEA Related Topics & Suggestions post and then, get to work! Tell us all about what you'd be learning were you there or even give us a "mini-panel" to attend from your own blog. Your topic does NOT have to be pulled right from the pages of BEA, take some liberty and put together a post that will have people talking. When you think you've got it, come back and link it up below.

We can't wait to hear what everyone comes up with! Please feel free to let us know if you have questions either in the comments or by email. There will be prizes given away as we go to participants selected at random so make sure to link up and comment as much as you have time for! The more you participate the greater the fun and excitement of the event!

So, plug-in the lap top, get a snack, pull up a chair and get ready for the greatest BEA event to ever happen in the comfort of your very own home!

Link Example: There's A Book (Author Signings)
(Linking is only open until the closing ceremonies post on Saturday.)

BBC Related Post Topics & Suggestions

Is everyone getting excited for Arm Chair BEA? I know all of the organizers here at Arm Chair BEA are looking forward to it! So, before the weekend gets here, we thought we'd give you one more thing to get started on to prep your posts for next week, Book Blogger Convention Topics.

Here are the Main Topics from the
BBC Convention:
  • Marketing - How to increase your blog stats, Branding, Getting your name out there
  • Writing and Building Content - Tips and tricks on writing good book reviews, Tone-humor sarcasm, I'm out of ideas what do I do now?/How do I keep it fresh?, Planning a good feature/series, What content is most popular? How do I innovate/differentiate?, How do I balance reviews with other content?
  • Impact of the Relationship Between Author and Blogger - Creating/Fostering a relationship, Pitfalls of relationships between blogger/author
  • Blogging With Social Responsibility
Some other resources to use would be the following:
I should also mention that there is an entire session with Ron Hogan from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt discussing Professionalism and Ethics in Blogging with a focus on these topics:
  • How to communicate with publishing companies, publicists, etc.
  • Professionalism and ethics in blogging
Now, for what we need you to do for this day specifically. Below there is a Mr. Linky, we'd like all the participants planning on posting for this day to link up now with their blog name and what topic out of the above choices you would like to focus your own post on. By doing this it gives us, the organizers, an opportunity to make sure that each of the topics are covered.

Please know that if you change your mind and decide you just can't come up with something for the one selected you can change your mind, it's not a problem. We're just trying to get a feeling for what everyone is going to be discussing.

Also, if you happen to have more resources to suggest, please feel free to leave them in the comments and we'll get them added as they come in. We want everyone to have all the information out there to help them in their post write up.

Thanks so much! We really can't wait to see what everyone is interested in!

Choosing Armchair BEA instead of BEA: A testimonial

I received this comment to a post on my personal blog, and asked the commenter if I could share it here. It's a wonderful testimonial to what we've started:
I have to share this story....

Last night my husband called from the road and offered to send me to BEA! He had read my blog post that introduced Armchair BEA and since my summer plans have changed, he thought perhaps this might be a good get-away for me.

You know what I told him? NO --- I would rather stay home and be part of the Armchair BEA festivities. It sounds like such fun --- and with 115 participants and counting, it should be a blast.

Thank you so much for putting on this viritual event. There are many, many of us who greatly appreciate it.
As of this morning, we're up over 120 participants - and please don't panic if your name's not showing on the Participants page yet. Updates are coming soon!

And many thanks to Molly of My Cozy Book Nook for choosing to stay home and Armchair BEA with us!

BEA Related Post Topics & Suggestions

So...you say you're ready to get typing? Excited about all the bookish information you want to share with the wonderful participants of Arm Chair BEA! Well, we thought we'd give everyone a nudge and some suggestions for their BEA Related Posts that should be going up Tuesday through Thursday. Remember you could technically post every day about a different topic, so there's no need to cover every topic in one single post.

New Title Showcase - So many new books to chose from! What new titles from this BEA event are you looking forward to? New Title Showcase by Exhibit & New Title Showcase by Category

Exhibits - BEA is full of Exhibits from Publishers to bookstores to literary agencies and publicity groups. Which ones would you make a point of stopping at from this list? BEA Exhibit List

Your Favorite Authors Sign A Book - BEA is the place for author signings, either in the main Author Signing Area or in Individual Publishing Booths. Who on this list would you make time for and why? (BEA Search Autographing Areas) If your favorite isn't on the list highlight an author that you would like to meet. Do a little research, add websites, FB pages, Twitter handles, etc. to tell us a more about them. Or even write a letter to the author, explain to us why you fell for this author.

Your Favorite Signed Book - Ever been to an author signing? Which was your favorite? Share a picture or two, even the picture of your signed book will do. If you haven't ever been to one, tell us all about your dream signing!

Name Your Dream Panel - BEA is full of discussion panels where between 3 to 5 authors/publishers discuss various topics. If you could put together your own panel who (authors/publishers only) would be on it and what would they be discussing? Need some inspiration? Take a look at the schedule from BEA: BEA Search Conferences & BEA Search Stages

Blast from the Past - During this time, a lot of new releases are going to be the focus. What if we also remembered some great books released in past years or even classics as an option? Tell us a little bit about books you've cherished, old or new.

Keeping Up the Conversation - Let's Chat! How do we get our readers involved in a good book discussion? What about comments, how do we handle commenting etiquette? How about when authors stop by, what to ask and who comments? Can we expect an author to respond to comments? A few resources to take a look at: Commenting Etiquette by Aarti at Book Lust, Dear Story Siren, Dear Story Siren - 6

Publishers - What publishers expect from bloggers and what bloggers think publishers expect? Also, how does blogging work as a driver of change in the book industry? (Everything I Needed to Know, I Learned from Bloggers)

Don't worry, I know you're thinking, what about BBC? I need some help with topics for that Friday as well! We've got you covered and will have some great suggestions coming your way shortly. Until then, get typing on your BEA posts and don't forget to come back by the official Arm Chair BEA page to link up everyday!
